The jury translation for Spain: who makes and how much it costs

The Spanish authorities have a translation of the juror-intérprete jurado, a specialist with the title of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is responsible for verifying the translation of the signature and the stamp.

Information material, not individual legal opinion: Prepared using IE; checked by a subject matter specialist before publication has not yet been completed; conditions apply to a particular situation and may change.
Short
  • Official nature has a transfer made by the holder of the title of Trader Jurado or Intérprete Jurado issued by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, subject to printing, assurances and copies of the original (arts. 17 and 18 Real Decreto 724/2020) [2].
  • Such transfers are made before Spanish authorities without further legalization (art. 12.2 of the same regulations) [2].
  • For UGE proceedings, public documents are not translated into Spanish by a juror appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. [3].
  • The list of interpreters in which they are admitted is maintained by the Officiala de Interpretación de Lenguas. [1].
  • There's no Tariq.:: Under article 16 Real Decreto 724/2020, the jury itself appoints fees, minimum and maximum rates are not specified by law [2].
  • We recommend that the original be corrected by the issuing authority, that the apostille be set, then that the whole set be translated with the stamp.

Who makes the juror's translation and why they accept it

Translator (tradector-intérprete jurado, TIJ) is awarded title by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Spanish Cooperation… [1][2]. The interpreter shall certify the accuracy and accuracy of the translation by his signature and stamp, according to the formula to be applied by the Ministry [1]The title doesn't make him an official or create a working relationship with the administration. [1].

For Spanish procedures, this removes the issue of additional certification: Article 12.2 Real Decreto 724/2020 exempts official translations of Translators to be held before the Spanish administration [2]A transfer made by a person without title is not considered official, however well performed.

There is one reservation: the jury's translation confirms the accuracy of the text, not the authenticity of the original, and the authenticity confirms the apostille or legalization: apostille and legalization of documents for Spain.

What documents are translated by the Translator

The Ministry of Migration (Hoja 61) indicates that the public document must be translated into Spanish and that in the proceedings the Autonomous Community authorities may also have its second official language. [4].

How to Check A juror

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains a single register, and each interpreter is assigned a register number that is independent of the number of languages (art. 13 Real Decreto 724/2020) [2]Oficina de Interpretación de Lenguas publishes a list, which indicates which languages each specialist is admitted to. Contact details and an active practice mark appear on the list only if the translator himself has informed them [1][2]The Ministry's website contains a search for "Buscador de tradectores e interpretes jurados" [1].

The office itself does not participate in the orders: it does not act as a broker or make private transfers [1]The words tradecion official or jurada in the agency's ad do not prove that this is the person who has the title. Check the name and number on the list, not on the agency's website. Please specify who will physically print and sign.

The order for Catalan, Galician and Basque languages is different: the Ministry has not conducted examinations since 1992, the titles are given to the communities and the lists are kept by their departments. [1]The Russian language requires an interpreter from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

What should be in the ready translation

Before you transfer to the department, follow the list, based on article 18 Real Decreto 724/2020 and the report of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs [2][6].

ElementWhat to Check
AssuranceSignature and stamp of the interpreter, with assurance of accuracy and loyalty [2]
PrintThe press, by law, only indicates the name, language or languages of admission and the number of the interpreter [2]
Copy originalA copy of the original, sealed and dated on each page, is attached to the translation. [2]
CompleteStamps, apostilles, negotiable sheets, apps and handwritten markings have been translated, nothing has been cut
UnityTranslation sheet, assurance and original copy are collected in one document rather than in separate pages
Names and datesThe writing matches the passport and the documents already filed.

The line on "unit" follows from the MFA's requirements for translations that are legalized: translation, assurance and copy of the original are linked by the stamp of the interpreter between all sheets [6]It's not always the way to do it, but it looks like a reliable translation.

Ordering juror transfer: steps

  1. Give the interpreter the procedure, the department and the language of the original document. If there are more than one document, give the full list at once.
  2. Correct the original errors at the authority that issued it. [6].
  3. Put the apostille or legalize the original, but then translate it into a translation.
  4. Please give the scans read: seals, negotiable sheets, attachments. Please specify whether the interpreter needs the original.
  5. Agree on the format of the issuance: paper with live seal or electronic signature, number of copies, delivery.
  6. When you get a translation, check the names, dates, document numbers and numbers with the original and passport.

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has separately written that electronic signatures are permitted by any means specified in article 10 Ley 39/2015. [1]Whether the agency accepts electronic translation at your stage, specify in advance.

How much a jury translates and what the price is coming from

There is no official juror fee in Spain: Article 16 Real Decreto 724/2020 says that the juror "fijarán libremente los honorarios", i.e., the fee is freely awarded; the minimum and maximum rates are not specified by law and the Ministry's price interpreter page does not contain any [1][2]We do not provide a summary: the figures from the ads and forums are contradictory and quickly outdated. [1].

The translation unit is chosen by the interpreter: page, word, fixed sum per document or other; in practice, the price is driven by such factors.

FactorHow Price Impacts
Language coupleRare pairs are usually more expensive; interpreters with the right language in the roster may be small
Type and volume of documenta single page certificate and a stamp and stamp certificate are considered to be different
Reading Originalhandwritten text, bad scan, lots of seals take longer.
UrgentityFast time is often more expensive.
Format of extraditionpaper with live seal, electronic signature, number of copies, delivery
Additional formalitiesApostille or original legalization is not included in the translation itself

It is a list of factors, not a tariff grid: how to take them into account is the decision of the interpreter.

How to Compare Interpreters' Proposals

  1. Translator number and press language: they must match the record in the register [1][2].
  2. Unit of calculation: What is considered a page or word, as is considered as a stamp, stamp and turn of the sheet.
  3. Which is the sum total: number of copies, electronic signature, delivery, correction of the interpreter's error.
  4. What you're transmitting is that the translation is accompanied by a copy of the original with a stamp and a date on each page, so the interpreter needs a full and read original. [2].

Please write and compare the same set of documents. Whether you need apostille in a particular document is dealt with Do you need apostille?; for the sake of non-judiciality, the following is separate: Certificate of indignity for residence.

Names and transliterations

The most trouble in Russian-speaking packages is given names. Russian names may be written differently in foreign passports, marriage certificates and bank statements. Before ordering a passport, write all the documents. If there are different transliteration options in the family, prepare an explanation and an act where the source of the discrepancy is visible. The choice of writing that the agency sees in different documents is better agreed with the lawyer or the hestor before the submission, while the documents can still be corrected.

Which translations won't fit.

  • Non-title transfer: IED, performed by a familiar or agency without a juror. [2].
  • Local transfer from the country of extradition. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs allows such transfers to be legalized, but warns that some Spanish administrations may not accept them. [6].
  • Translation without original or with incomplete sheets [2].
  • Translation of the old version of the document If the original was later corrected or replaced.

Notarized translation does not replace the title of interpreter: we have not found universal replacement for the established procedure; you have to decide on the unusual options before ordering.

Typical Errors

  • They order a translation before the apostille and then they translate the stamp separately.
  • The interpreter is requested to correct the original error, only the issuing authority corrects.
  • They don't check the name of the translator on the roster and they take the ad.
  • The interpreter is given extra money: one act does not require a case file; especially careful with forensic and medical data: check who receives the document and how it is stored.
  • Sending an unread scan with a cut seal.
  • They don't compare the outcome to the passport.
  • The only way to get an interpreter is to get a price per page without telling what it is.

When Individual Review Is Needed

A review is needed if you have documents in languages where there are few translators on the roster, if you need a Catalan translation for the Catalan procedure, if the package includes documents from different countries or if the agency has already sent a requerimiento with a request for translation, in which case the answer depends on which organ and which stage: How to Answer Requerimiento.

What can we help you with?

The NEXO team determines which documents of your package are to be translated, the order in which they are to be prepared relative to the apostille, and checks the final translations to the original and passport before delivery. You select the translator on the roster, we agree with him on the timing and format. Translations and government duties are paid separately. More detailed on the service: documents and translations.
